IYFAR: Iyengar Yoga for Addiction Recovery

Third Thursdays Monthly (9-10 AM EST) via Zoom – free
* resuming fall 2021

In 2011, a few months after I got sober, I starting teaching yoga for people like me – alcoholics and drug addicts trying to recover. My own experience in recovery is that the spiritual practice of yoga helps purify the body and release the mind, helping to establish a new life of stability and purpose. IYFAR presents yoga postures and basic breathing techniques, and incorporates ancient yoga and 12-step philosophies into a physical and spiritual practice that is accessible to all people drawn to explore spiritual recovery from addiction. No previous yoga experience is required; no need to be “in recovery” to attend. Classes are suitable for all ages and abilities.

When COVID-19 suspended in-person yoga classes, I started teaching online and am thrilled to be offering this free monthly IYFAR class (the Zoom link is also embedded in the Nama calendar). Please contact me with any questions.

Deer Isle Chapter 2 Big Book

Tuesdays, 7-8 PM (EST) via Zoom (link here!)

This meeting originated on Deer Isle, ME in March 2020. Then COVID-19 rocketed us into the Zoom dimension. Chapter 2 refers to “There is a Solution” – the 2nd chapter in Alcoholics Anonymous, the foundational text for spiritually grounded 12-step recovery. Each week, with the book as our guide, we share our experiences recovering from the spiritual malady of addiction – and living a life of usefulness and meaning. You do not need to identify as an alcoholic or an addict of any sort. Truly all may attend.
