IY_cert_teacherLiz Leuthner is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT). The Iyengar system emphasizes precise alignment and develops inner awareness through physical posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The method is rooted in the ancient ashtanga (eight-limbed) philosophy of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, a set of aphorisms that frame a way of being in the world that is practical, experiential, devotional and personal. Only the world’s most knowledgeable, rigorously trained teachers earn Iyengar Yoga Certification. (Read more about BKS Iyengar and Iyengar yoga here.) Thank you to my teachers, CIYTs David Yearwood and Kim Peralta, for inspiration, motivation and faith.

Kirtan Soul Revival: June 24!

caliatoddhelenSATURDAY, June 24, 7:30 PM
509 Forest Avenue, Portland, ME
tix: $15 advance / $20 door

Kirtan Soul Revival is bringing lots of funky love from NYC with new chants and a brand new CD set to release in the fall but available in pre-release just for this tour. Come on out and celebrate summer with heart-opening chanting, funky beats, dancing, and sweet community!

Please bring blankets and bolsters/pillows if you have them!

Thank you to the Call and Response Foundation and Hope Acts for helping make this evening possible!

Kirtan Soul Revival (KSR) is NYC’s funkiest devotional mantra music experience. Since 2011 they have been fusing traditional Sanskrit mantras with original music to create a unique, dynamic sound that merges guitar-driven funk, rock, gospel, R&B, world grooves, and chants. Soul-stirring vocals and 3-part harmony add fullness and depth to their sound. Calia Marshall, Helen Styring Tocci & Todd Keller with drummer Terrence Pompey are all longtime yoga practitioners and musicians. They have created a singular sound in the growing genre of mantra music that brings the connecting power of harmony and a fusion of Eastern/Western sounds to a public craving more positivity, love and community in its music and life. KSR has led kirtans at many leading yoga centers including Integral, Jivamukti, and Kripalu. With many successful bi-coastal tours, they have played festivals such as BhaktiFest, Wanderlust, Philly Shakti Fest, Ahimsa and Berwick Yoga Festival in CA. They have recorded with Krishna Das, The Hanumen, and Saul David Raye. The KSR experience invites participants to open their hearts to Spirit and to life!

Recovery on Retreat: Pulling Back | Moving Inward | Taking Action

September 9-11, 2016
The Alcyon Center, Seal Cove, ME

a weekend retreat with the Portland Recovery Community
Fri 5pm-Sun 2pm, $100-$150 (sliding scale)
>> reserve your spot:

Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 10.29.51 AMThis fall my pals Mark Cevoli, Brian Mantle and I are leading a retreat especially for those in recovery from addiction. Please join us in spectacular Seal Cove for a weekend in community at The Alcyon Center.

If you are just beginning to respond to the call of the spirit – or are simply wondering what it’s like to “go on a retreat”- please join us for this weekend in community. Inspired by the root of “retreat” – “to pull back”, we will read, pray, listen and practice – together and individually. We will explore spiritual practices such as Bendedictine labor (physical work as a meditative practice), cooking with intention, yoga and meditation in silence and heart, and how recovery from addiction merges with the spiritual life to become contemplative action.

This weekend in community is for learning that it is not only “okay” but essential to take a break, begin to build a relationship with the divine, connect with the spirit, touch nature, go deep, laugh, eat, work and sleep. Recovery from addiction merges with the spiritual life to become contemplative action.
